The main significance of the traditional ritual is establishing the bond between the mother in law and daughter in law. Here the most important element is the presence of flowers. The tradition on Padapuja of washing the feet of the elders is not something new and has been followed from olden days. Earlier even guests would be welcomed by performing this and was considered as a humble gesture by the host.
